Democrats Shoot Down Legislation Against Tax Cheats. Timing?

In a Politico article, the author describes the liberal push to get rid of legislation that would terminate any government employee or staffer that had back taxes and did not repay it.  Surely this bill only deals with a few people that owe very little money… surely.

In 2008 alone, 447 House employees and 231 Senate workers didn’t pay their taxes, according to figures from the IRS, Office of Personnel Management, and Department of Defense. Federal employees in the U.S. House of Representatives owed more than $5.8 million in unpaid taxes in 2008. The Senate employees owe more than $2.46 million, according to figures.

Ok, not surely.  When something’s fishy, follow the money.

“I think the subtext is the Democrat’s support for unions,” said Chaffetz, a committee member

Government employee unions would love to keep their employees more-protected than the rest of us.  Of course there is also the issue that the Chairman of the house committee that makes tax law .. cheats on his taxes.
