Democrats Are Blocking Jobs Bills

House Passed Jobs Bills

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) are telling President Obama that the House of Representatives has passed more than a dozen “pro-growth” bills to enhance job creation. But with one exception, Senate Democrats have refused to consider any of the bills, including bills to reduce the regulatory burdens on farmers and small business owners, to block a national energy tax, and to boost offshore energy production. In a letter to the president on Tuesday (September 6, 2011), Boehner and Cantor listed all the House-passed “jobs” bills that are now languishing in the Senate. A list of nine of the House passed bills is provided below.

Both Boehner and Cantor said they would like to meet with President Obama before he gives his “jobs” address to Congress on Thursday. A meeting could give lawmakers “the opportunity to constructively discuss your proposals.”

House Leader Web Sites

Today (September 8, 2011), from House Speaker John Boehner’s web site, it was announced that GOP leaders and authors of House-passed jobs bills held a press conference to highlight the Senate’s inaction. The Republican jobs plan has solutions designed to get government out of the way so our economy can get back to creating jobs, the web site says.

From House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s web site this morning: “Our nation faces a very serious jobs crisis as people across the country struggle with long-term joblessness and businesses are hampered by increasing economic uncertainty. Tonight, President Obama will address the nation before a joint session of Congress to present his ideas for job creation and getting the economy back on track.” This site also has some other very good points.

List of House Passed Bills

Below are listed nine Republican controlled House passed bills that the Democrat controlled Senate will not pass and/or consider.

  • North American-Made Energy Security Act (H.R. 1938) – require the federal government to allow the Keystone XL pipeline.
  • Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act (H.R. 1230) – address high gas prices and support the creation of new American jobs by increasing offshore energy production.
  • Clean Water Cooperative Federalism Act (H.R. 2018) – restrict the federal government’s ability to second-guess or delay a state’s permitting and water quality certification decisions.
  • Reducing Regulatory Burdens Act (H.R. 872) – halt duplicative federal regulations on farmers and small business owners.
  • Jobs and Energy Permitting Act of 2011 (H.R. 2021) – streamline the permit process for American energy production to help lower prices.
  • Consumer Financial Protection & Soundness Improvement Act (H.R. 1315) – increase consumer protection and government accountability.
  • Energy Tax Prevention Act (H.R. 910) – stop the federal bureaucracy from imposing a national energy tax.
  • Putting the Gulf of Mexico Back to Work Act (H.R. 1229) – ending the moratorium on American energy production in the Gulf of Mexico.
  • Reversing President Obama’s Offshore Moratorium Act (H.R. 1231) – ending the moratorium on American energy production in the Gulf of Mexico.

Obama Asking For More Stimulus

Before his death John Maynard Keynes wrote that he had come to doubt that government spending could end a recession or create private sector jobs. Why do liberals and the current administration continue to ignore this? But tonight the President will demand yet more “stimulus” spending, rather than tell the Senate Democrats to pass the House bills to get America working.

But that’s just my opinion.
