Whew. Attorney General Eric Holder was able to loosen the noose around his neck this morning. His eleventh hour appeal to boss Obama was granted giving him Executive Privilege in the Fast and Furious case.Read Holder’s letter here.

In granting this order the White House stated that President Bush used Executive Privilege during his presidency. They fail to remember the outrage by Democrats and the media when this happened. Even if what Bush did was wrong didn’t their momma ever tell them that two wrongs don’t make a right? Isn’t it time to stop blaming Bush and start explaining this administrations actions?

The death of Border Agent Brian Terry over one and a half years ago should have been resolved with questions answered quickly and truthfully. Who originally authorized this program? What was its true purpose? There are many who speculate gun running would prove that most guns being used by cartels in Mexico were from the US which would bring public support to stronger gun laws. How far up the Justice Department did it go? Did knowledge of this program go into the administration? Who signed off on such a potentially dangerous idea? Who lied when the first letter from the Obama administration was sent to Congress denying any knowledge of Fast and Furious–a letter which was proven untrue by the House Oversight Committee? How far does this cover-up go? What does Executive Privilege do to keep us from finding out the truth.

People should be angry. This program did not make Americans safer. In fact, many would argue that purposely selling weapons to men of ‘questionable character’ has  done nothing but add to the violence along the border. However, it appears that many viewers of the left leaning media are still woefully uninformed about the Fast and Furious gunrunning program.

Today, as the news channels are forced to report on this tragic tale of woeful incompetence average citizens may start to learn about a terrible program, apparently run at very high levels, that went terribly wrong. Hopefully, they will begin asking questions about this program. When they do which truly non-biased reporters will give them all the gory details?

Here are a few key details to share with your awakened friends:

  • Fast and Furious is not the same as the Bush era Operation Wide Receiver. Notably, Wide Receiver was a gun tracing program run with the knowledge and assistance of the Mexican government. During Fast and Furious Mexican officials were kept out of the loop.
  • Fast and Furious weapons are linked to one killed Border Patrol Agent and over 300 Mexican deaths.
  • Sending guns across the border to Mexico was part of the Fast and Furious plan. Losing track of them, maybe not so much.
  • Much of the current debate about Fast and Furious is not the program itself but a possible cover-up. A letter sent to Congress denying knowledge of the program by Holder’s office was eventually retracted, over one year later.
