Zients worked at Bain from August, 1988, to June, 1990. While at Bain, Zients reported to Mary Menell, another Bain employee. She was four years his senior, and subsequently became his wife. They now have four children. They were married in South Africa, Menell’s homeland, with Menell’s parents’ friend Nelson Mandela in attendance. In the interest of full disclosure, I have a daughter in South Africa, and she just married a guy from there. But neither of them hang out with Nelson Mandela or his ilk.
Zients left Bain to return to Washington to become an entrepreneur. After Zients donated to 2008 Democrat presidential candidate Obama, Obama set up a new position, “chief performance officer.” Then fellow entrepreneur, Virginia Sen. Mark Warner, says he floated Zients’ name. Coincidence? I’m suuuuuuuuuuuuure that Zients was, in Warner’s view, the most qualified man for the job. BTW, when Zients was appointed OMB director, the White House failed to mention that he (or his wife) had worked at Bain.
Zients was listed as one of the 40 richest Americans under 40, with a net worth conservatively estimated at around $200 million. Does that make him one of the hated and despised 1%?.
One of Obama’s top campaign strategist, David Axelrod, criticized Romney for having a “Bain mentality.” Does that mentality extend to Zients and his wife as well? On that, Axelrod did not comment.
The appointment of Zients in January, 2012, did little to slow attack ads from the DNC against Mitt Romney as an evil job-outsourcer CEO. For example, Debbie Wasserman Schultz said the attacks on Mitt Romney as a “jobs outsourcer” won’t stop, despite findings to the contrary at FactCheck.org.
I guess the Obama campaign strategy of hypocrisy and attack will never cease since that’s all upon which it has to run.
But that’s just my opinion.
