Sarah at the Convention? Yea or Nay.

There is an undercurrent of rumblings from the social conservatives this week. They want to know who will represent them and how important social issues will be covered during the upcoming GOP convention.

While the speaker time slots at the convention appears filling with acceptable conservatives some are waiting for one specific name: Sarah Palin.

Still a favorite in many circles of the base Palin exemplifies fiscal conservative values with a strong pro-life and family background from which she has never wavered. To many she represents the American Dream, coming from a rural America and a small business owner, her activism and concern for a cause offered the opportunity to become governor of our largest state. When Palin took center stage at the last Republican convention she wowed and rallied conservatives across the country.

Now, four years later there are still many who remember that electrifying speech, a woman who stood up to the ‘good old boys’ club and won. They hope to bring back that unifying moment from the convention and their warm memories tell them Palin can do it again.

In such a tight election battle the pros and cons of each speaker are carefully weighed for best placement. Many are reminded of the high negatives received by Palin, fairly or not.

In our 24/7 news cycle even the smallest perceived faux pas can mushroom and overshadow the convention (just look at Romney’s comments in England). Is there a place for Sarah at the convention? Would her appearance cause more distraction than help? Would it be enough that she solidify the base? Or would too many remember the negatives of the Saturday Night Live persona?
