This is former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford’s first ad in his new political campaign for Congress. He is asking for a second chance, reminding us all that God is the God of second chances. Only time will tell if the people of South Carolina are willing to give him that second chance.
On 2009, former Governor Sanford disappeared, and had no communication with his staff “for more than four days, and that no one, including his own family, knows his whereabouts.” On June 24, 2009, he publicly acknowledged that he had an affair with an Argentinian reporter, and resigned as chairman of the Republican Governors Association. Following a State Ethics Commission investigation into allegations that he had misused state travel funds to conduct his affair, the South Carolina General Assembly censured him.
In December of 2009, his wife, Jenny Sanford announced that she was filing for divorce, calling it a “sad and painful process.”
Now, he wants a second chance to serve.
