Chris Kyle: An American Hero Remembered

Chris Kyle. Today America remembered a true hero.  He was not a famous sport figure who makes too much money to carry a ball of some sort down a field or court. Neither was he a famous musician, making millions upon millions for lip syncing his way into mainstream America. He was a- no, The Legend– in his own rights. Today America remembered the man known as America’s Deadliest Sniper.

On February 2, Chris Kyle, a former Navy SEAL, was gun downed in cold blooded murder while helping a fellow former soldier. That soldier turned on him, and took his life, as well as the life of Chris’ friend, Chad Littlefield.

The Memorial Service for Chris Kyle, which was expected to attract thousands, was was held at Cowboys Stadium. It is estimated that nearly 7,000 people attended the Service, including former Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin.

As an observer, one could not help but laugh in one moment, and cry in the next moment, as family and friends remembered the life of the man, the husband, the father, the son, the friend, the hero.

Chris’ wife Taya Kyle spoke of the man she loved in a down-to-earth, real way, refusing to “romanticize” Chris in his death. The love and devotion she spoke of for him, as well as from him, was heart wrenchingly beautiful. She made it clear that Chris Kyle was not perfect- he had his faults- but he was a blessing in her life.

His friend spoke of his mischievous, good-heart in a way that made you wish you had known him.

Those who served with him spoke of the man, the myth, The Legend that is Chris Kyle. What started out as a joke- the nickname of The Legend- became a reality in the life of Chris Kyle, as he was one to never back down from a challenge. He was there for the good times and the bad.

Many who attended today’s Memorial Service did not know Chris Kyle personally, but attended to honor “a brother in arms.”

America salutes you, Chris Kyle! Hooyah!
