In a 134 to 63 vote against challenger Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), democrats chose the status quo of California-style identity politics, gridlock, and infighting over Ryan’s Ohio’ish appeal to middle-America and the working class. “We’ve lost that brand, and that’s the brand that gets you elected,” said Mr. Ryan
The House Democratic leader has presided over the massive losses in the house in the last few elections and was only able to pick up 6 seats of 24 possible in the 2016 races. “We have lost over 60 seats since 2010. We have the fewest Democrats in state and federal offices since Reconstruction,” Ryan remarked.
Pelosi, now 76 years-old, has been a Democratic member of the House since 1976. Many were calling to a younger face to lead the party in a different direction, but with Ms. Pelosi’s win on Wednesday, things are likely to stay much the same.
