Retired Army Lt. General Michael T. Flynn resigned his position on Monday night as President Trump’s national security advisor.
Troubled handling of communications with Russia over former president Obama’s sanctions led to the decorated military veteran’s resignation from the Trump White House.
When asked about Flynn, President Trump twice responded that they “will be releasing a statement,” but when immediately afterward asked if Reince Priebus was doing a good job, the President responded “He’s not doing a good job. He’s doing a great job!”
Other reports out of the White House have indicated that the President is “evaluating” the Flynn issue.
Flynn had spoken to the Russian ambassador to the United States on the same day that President Obama put sanctions on the Russian Federation for alleged “interference” in the U.S. Presidential election.
Flynn had become a lightning rod for democratic attacks against Trump while the president attempts to complete a record-setting number of campaign objectives.
The announcement comes after a day’s worth of rumors that the president was “evaluating” the situation.
