‘The Matrix’ (1999)

The massively successful Matrix series may be getting another installment according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sources say that Warner Brothers is in early talks with Zak Penn to handle the script and Michael B. Jordan to direct the next Matrix film.

The Matrix was the highest grossing film in 1999 debuting the “bullet-time” slow/stop motion special effect the series is known for.

The Matrix storyline has openings at both the beginning and end that could be explored by either a sequel or prequel. Whether the next film will explore Morpheus’ beginnings, the machine war or a continuation of Neo’s story is yet to be decided.

Matrix lead actor Keanu Reeves said that he would be open to starring in another Matrix film, but only if the Wachowskis, who have not yet been included, were involved.

Zak Penn has been involved with sci-fi show “Alphas” and comic-book themed movie series “X-Men” and “The Avengers.”
