NFL Star Cornerback Suggests That Colin Kaepernick is Being Blackballed

Some NFL players are rushing to the defense of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick who remains jobless.

Outspoken Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman has joined the chorus of crybabies who are claiming that Kaepernick is being treated unfairly due to his controversial refusal to stand during the national anthem last season.

Accusations of racism and blackballing are flying like Kaepernick’s errant passes and the Pro Bowler Sherman has suggested that it could be the latter.

According to ESPN “Richard Sherman believes Colin Kaepernick being treated unfairly”:

Appearing on ESPN First Take Friday, Sherman was asked if Kaepernick is being blackballed by NFL teams.

“I’m sure he is,” Sherman said. “It’s difficult to see because he’s played at such a high level, and you see guys, quarterbacks, who have never played at a high level being signed by teams. So it’s difficult to understand. Obviously he’s going to be in a backup role at this point. But you see quarterbacks, there was a year Matt Schaub had a pretty rough year and got signed the next year. So it has nothing to do with football. You can see that. They signed guys who have had off years before.”

While there is still plenty of time between now and the opening of training camps, it doesn’t bode well for Kaepernick that quarterback needy teams have signed guys like Geno Smith, Josh McCown, Matt Barkley, Bryan Hoyer and Mike Glennon while taking a pass on a guy who has become toxic. Even Mark Sanchez of the immortal “butt fumble” just signed a contract with the Chicago Bears.

Compounding the problems of the oppressed multimillionaire is the fear that he is subject to being drop-kicked by President Trump.

The POTUS ripped Kaepernick much to the delight of a cheering crowd during a rally in Louisville on Monday and there is reportedly fear that he will use his weaponized Twitter account to take a shot or two at the NFL’s reigning social justice warrior.

The Bleacher Report cites an unnamed NFL general manager:

“He can still play at a high level,” one AFC general manager said. “The problem is three things are happening with him.

“First, some teams genuinely believe that he can’t play. They think he’s shot. I’d put that number around 20 percent.

“Second, some teams fear the backlash from fans after getting him. They think there might be protests or [President Donald] Trump will tweet about the team. I’d say that number is around 10 percent. Then there’s another 10 percent that has a mix of those feelings.

“Third, the rest genuinely hate him and can’t stand what he did [kneeling for the national anthem]. They want nothing to do with him. They won’t move on. They think showing no interest is a form of punishment. I think some teams also want to use Kaepernick as a cautionary tale to stop other players in the future from doing what he did.”

When I spoke to a handful of executives at the combine a few weeks ago, one even called him “an embarrassment to football.”

For the moment, the interest in Kaepernick is slim, and that’s putting it kindly.

In any job seeking situation, attitude and the potential to embarrass one’s future employer is always taken into account during the hiring process and Kaepernick’s status as an NFL player shouldn’t mean that he has special privileges – even if many seem to think so.

While the anti-Trump movement has yet to adopt Kaepernick as a martyr to rally around that could soon change if the quarterback continues to be avoided like the Ebola virus.
