Tillerson: Military Action ‘on the table’ against North Korea

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that military action against North Korea was “on the table” if the communist country continues to advance its nuclear weapons program.

“If they elevate the threat of their threat weapons program to a level that we believe requires action then that option is on the table,” the secretary told a press conference in South Korea on Friday.

He said the United States does not want a military conflict, but if North Korea takes actions that threaten South Korean or U.S. forces it would be met with an “appropriate response.”

Secretary Tillerson’s comment comes one day after he said that 20 years of diplomatic maneuvering had failed to reign in the North Korean dictators and that it was time to try something else.

President Trump has mentioned his belief that in negotiations nothing should be taken off the table lest the United States end up in a weak bargaining position.
