Georgia Special Election Updates: Debate and Polls

Results coming out of Georgia nearly 24 hours after the first debate are breaking along partisan lines. Conservative news outlet dailycaller.com ran the headline “Handle Beats Up On Jon Ossoff In Ga Special Election Debate” while it’s counterpart politicususa.com published an article titled “Democrat Jon Ossoff Dominates Karen Handel In First Georgia Special Election Debate” and even Conservative Daily News weighed into the debate. So, what can anyone really take from this? Probably not much. In general, these debates tend to alter voters minds very little.

Notably, Republican candidate Karen Handle took some big swings at Ossoff. For example, at one point Handle asks Ossoff “who he planned to vote for in the special election” referring to the fact that Ossoff doesn’t live in the district he’s running to represent.

Latest polls:

By all means, polls aren’t everything. However, they can be extremely useful to get an idea of what the voters are thinking. To put it another way, we all saw how clearly skewed and inaccurate polls were this presidential cycle. These polls should be taken with a grain of salt, to say the least. Nonetheless, here’s the latest polling information. In short, the polls vary from a decent Ossoff lead to a dead heat race. Stay tuned for more updates on this special election.

Ossoff Leads Handel by 7 Points in Georgia House Runoff:

In a poll released Thursday by WSB-TV/Landmark Communications, 49.1 percent of voters said they favored Ossoff, while about 47.6 percent backed Republican Karen Handel.

Democrat Jon Ossoff is ahead of Republican Karen Handel by 1 point in Georgia’s House special election, which is well within the margin of error, according to a new poll.
