MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace repeatedly asked a sleepy-eyed Jon Ossoff why he’s using so many Hollywood celebrity endorsements in his campaign when the strategy clearly failed for Hillary Clinton.
“Let me ask you, do you think Samuel Jackson, George Takei and Sam Watterson and Jessica Lange and Connie Britton or any of the celebrities who endorsed you understand the daily struggles of those in your district?” Wallace asked. “Do you think Hillary Clinton’s failure with the biggest and brightest celebrities by her side and Jay-Z and Beyonce, do you think it’s smart to have the celebrities on your side?”
Ossoff, a 30-year-old documentary filmmaker, is tied in his race against Karen Handel for the U.S. House sixth district and the outsider influence in his campaign is becoming more burden than help.
The Democrat candidate had brought in $15 million between March 29 and May 31. The money appears to largely have come from the west coast. Ossoff reported only 800 donations from Georgia but over 7,200 from California – more than 3,000 came from the San Francisco Bay area.
Hillary’s campaign left Democrats trying to fight off the image of being out-of-touch with working class families. The money and celebrities being flown in to force Jon Ossoff down Georgian’s throats aren’t helping.
The Georgia sixth district election will be held June 20 and is the most expensive House race in history.
