Principal Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders lit up CNN and fake news in Tuesday’s briefing. One journalist, Brian Karem, the executive editor of the Montgomery County Sentinel, almost came to tears after she rightfully attacked the current state of the mainstream media. Watch as he tries to defend the indefensible.
In an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Mathews after the briefing, Karem explained his momentary lapse of composure.
“Maybe I lost my temper at that moment, but it was a long time coming,” he said before adding, “I would like the see that taken off and just taken off the table and let us talk about real issues. Let us ask our questions. Quit hitting us with faking media.”
But Karem exposed a crack. A crack in the media. While the media giants are fixated on Russia, fake stories and crap that no one else cares about, perhaps some in the media actually have some real questions. The fact that he went on MSNBC to talk about it doesn’t say much about his leanings or judgment, but his point might be fair.
Perhaps CNN, NBC, The Washington Post and The New York Times have created such a whirlwind around fake news that typical news agencies are struggling to get real stories out.
Then again, Circa.com managed to scoop them all. Yes, even Mr. Karem. Their story on the Russia crap about probable retribution against Flynn looks like the first honest reporting on the matter in almost a year.
Flynn’s intervention on behalf of Supervisory Special Agent Robyn Gritz was highly unusual, and included a letter in 2014 on his official Pentagon stationary, a public interview in 2015 supporting Gritz’s case and an offer to testify on her behalf. His offer put him as a hostile witness in a case against McCabe, who was soaring through the bureau’s leadership ranks.
