Washington Post Gloats: Trump is Lame Duck President

It’s been a glorious 48 hours for anti-Trump forces. The Democrats are reinvigorated after Senator John McCain exacted his revenge against President Trump by single-handedly killing attempts to get rid of Obamacare.

The dead man walking returned to Washington where he was showered with platitudes and cheered by all of the denizens of the swamp/sewer in a way that he hadn’t been since he was sprung from the Hanoi Hilton.

Once McCain was able to engineer a veto-proof Russian sanctions bill and stick it to Trump with his saving of Obamacare, he left town with it being questionable as to when – or if – he will return.

Outside of McCain himself, a certain newspaper that has been determined to destroy Trump is also celebrating the humiliation inflicted on Trump by the sinking of the partial Obamacare repeal.

The Washington Post is already gloating that Trump is now a “lame duck” president who will never be allowed to make America great again, so sayeth the swamp.

According to Pravda on the Potomac “Mark this date: Donald Trump is now a lame-duck president”:

Remember this day, July 28, 2017: The day Donald Trump became a lame duck president. More significantly, the day the tea party revolution ended and Washington began the return to “regular order.”

The coup de grâce came at 1:30 a.m. on the Senate floor as John McCain became the third Republican to break ranks and defeat the third attempt to repeal Obamacare, which embodied the Democrats’ promise that all Americans could — and should — have health insurance at a price they can afford. It was, as tea party Republicans had warned, another expensive government entitlement that, once granted, could never be taken away. Now McCain had acknowledged that political reality.

This is a Waterloo moment for Trump, the tea party and their alliance.  They have been stopped in their tracks not only by Democratic opposition but because of a mutiny within their own ranks. Although never particularly liked or respected, it is now clear that they are no longer feared. The bankruptcy of their ideas and their incompetence have been exposed. Their momentum has been dissipated. Their rejection of political norms has itself been scorned. Our long national nightmare may finally be coming to an end.

The references to the tea party are interesting because that movement has for all intents and purposes ceased to exist, at least under that name.

What the WAPO is really referring to are the regular Americans who have come to view Washington and its greed, corruption, and amorality as an enemy and that anger at the establishment is what helped to put Trump into the White House.

It’s probably a bit too early to bury Trump and to dance on his political grave. He has already survived everything that has been thrown at him over two years and is hardly the type of man who will cower and pack it in during a time of adversity. The man is certainly resilient.

Even if Trump does end up as a “lame duck” as the WAPO claims, what the political elite still can’t wrap their snobbish minds around is that the election was always about more than Trump the man. You see, the flawed Trump was always a symbol – kind of like Batman- and it was less about him than the message.

If anything, the WAPO and the rest of the Star-bellied Sneetches in Imperial Washington have only increased the animosity towards them with their war on Trump using fake news and Russian hoax mongering which translates into a war on 63 million Americans who voted for him and probably tens of millions more who didn’t.

Despite the glorification of McCain as a messiah who has saved the establishment, it is an illusion and if you listen hard enough, it is possible to already hear the storm brewing in the distance and it is going to slam into D.C. regardless of what happens to Trump.
