The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) Tuesday filed several Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests aimed at bringing Obama-era flaws and secrets to light concerning Iran’s use of commercial airline flights to transport Jihadis to the battlefield in Syria.
In a blog post by ACLJ Executive Director Jordan Sekulow, the ACLJ’s demands are clear:
“In these new FOIA requests, we are demanding:
All records concerning the connection between the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), OFAC licenses issued to Boeing and Airbus allowing agreements for well over 200 jets, U.S. government knowledge of Iran’s past use or intended or possible future use of Iran Air jets to transport military personnel and/or equipment, and any discussions prior to the JCPOA concerning Iran Air’s use or possible use of jets for those purposes.”
Last week, President Donald Trump de-certified the JCPOA on the basis that it was neither in the national interest of the United States nor was Iran cooperating with the spirit of the agreement. Their sponsorship of international terrorism was central to his decision.
The president has since directed the Treasury Department to enact new sanctions against the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard and hopes that Congress will act to place new sanctions on the nation.
“He is right to call Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a “corrupt personal terror force and militia” and to call for Congress to “impos[e] tough sanctions,” Sekulow said. “He is right to stop ignoring the Iranian ‘regime’s two favorite chants’ – ‘Death to America’ and ‘Death to Israel.'”
