The one–two punch that former presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama delivered against President Donald Trump on Thursday shows that regardless of political party, the swamp dwellers stick together.
The media is also an integral part of that swamp and they all sang Bush’s praises, a stark departure of the treatment that he received in office. These days, all that it takes to wash away all of one’s sins is to sign up for the resistance against Trump.
But one former president chose to not be so quick to damn the current POTUS and believe it or not, it was Jimmy Carter.
In an interview with New York Times smarmy leftist Maureen Dowd, Carter rebutted the conspiracies that the Russians stole the election and also defended Trump against a media that has savaged him in a way that is unprecedented for an American president. Not even Nixon took this much shit during the height of Watergate.
As snarky as Dowd wrote the piece, she was unable to remove Carter’s most important comments and chose a title that is deliberately disrespectful and based only on the idea that the 39th President of the United States would volunteer to act as an envoy to speak with North Korea’s cray cray leader Jim Jong-un.
The following is excerpted from Dowd’s column “Jimmy Carter Lusts for a Trump Posting”:
On the media’s unfair treatment of Trump:
“I think the media have been harder on Trump than any other president certainly that I’ve known about,” Carter replied. “I think they feel free to claim that Trump is mentally deranged and everything else without hesitation.”
On the claims of Russian meddling depriving Hillary of her destiny:
He said: “I don’t think there’s any evidence that what the Russians did changed enough votes, or any votes.”
On supporting Hillary in the primaries:
“We voted for Sanders.”
On the racial grievance mongering NFL protesters:
“I think they ought to find a different way to object, to demonstrate. I would rather see all the players stand during the American anthem.”
Dowd also was aghast that Carter was harder on Barack Obama than he was on Trump which will only contribute to the pariah treatment that awaits the ex-president for not rushing to join the lynch mob.
See, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
