Weekend of Upsets Reshape College Football Playoff Picture

One can be forgiven for thinking that they were watching the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament considering the number of upsets that took place over the weekend.

Four of college football’s top ten teams went down to defeat on Friday and Saturday, led by the number two overall Clemson Tigers – the defending NCAA champions who were shocked by Syracuse 27-24 on Friday night.

Also on Friday night, the Washington State Cougars were mauled by the unheralded University of California Golden Bears by the score of 37-3 in a good old-fashioned butt whipping.

10^th ranked Auburn looked to be on the way up after jumping out to a huge lead in Death Valley against the erratic LSU Tigers but just as fans were sizing up head coach Ed Orgeron’s head for a pike, the home team staged a huge rally to win 27-23 and knock their SEC rivals out of the top ten.

The fifth-ranked Washington Huskies were shut down by a ferocious Arizona State defense as the Sun Devils took the nightcap of upset weekend 13-7.

The new top four are:

1: ALABAMA

2: PENN STATE

3: GEORGIA

4: TCU

It was a thrilling weekend of football and there was NO kneeling or disrespect to the flag or national anthem.

This author personally watched two great games that went down to the wire and were a far superior product to anything that the politicized NFL had to offer.

The matchups will only continue to get better and the stakes higher as the college football season enters a critical six-week period that will be action-packed and full of drama as the race for the playoffs picks up steam.
