North Korea is working on technology to load Anthrax, and perhaps other biological and chemical agents, into warheads that could be placed atop Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM) that are capable of hitting the United States and its allies, according to reports.
An unidentified South Korean intelligence official told Japan’s Asahi newspaper that North Korea was conducting experiments with Anthrax-laden warheads to understand if the bacterium could survive the high temperatures during atmospheric re-entry.
The U.S. government is reportedly aware of the tests but has made no official statements.
The testing comes as North Korea is under increasingly strict international sanctions for its missile and nuclear weapons testing.

Anthrax is an infection of the skin, lungs, intestines or blood caused by Bacillus anthracis. Symptoms occur 1-60 days after infection. The weaponized form would be aerosolized to keep the spores suspended in the air so that they could be breathed in causing the lungs to become infected.
Potential victims could be vaccinated before infection and those exposed can be treated with antibiotics and/or anti-toxins.[/box]
