Just minutes after the House of Representatives voted a second time to pass tax reform, President Donald Trump applauded the success.
“I promised the American people a big, beautiful tax cut for Christmas,” Trump said in a statement. “With final passage of this legislation, that is exactly what they are getting.”
It is unclear when the president will sign the bill as it has some trivial administrative steps to go through. Republicans are also considering whether to delay the signing until the new year in order to avoid cuts to some entitlement programs.
The president thanked members of Congress who supported the historic bill and said that the signature legislation is “an extraordinary victory for American families, workers, and businesses.”
“By cutting taxes and reforming the broken system, we are now pouring rocket fuel into the engine of our economy,” the president said adding, “America is back to winning again, and were growing like never before. There is a great spirit of optimism sweeping across our land. Americans can once again rest assured that our brightest days are still to come.”
Americans are already feeling optimistic about the economy. A survey out earlier this week showed that more people have a positive outlook on the economy than in recent history.
