Progressive activists are unhappy with Senate Democrats after all but 16 of them voted to reopen the government without a deal giving amnesty to a huge group of illegal aliens. Schumer agreed to end the shutdown with nothing but a date change to show for it.
Murshed Zaheed, political director of the liberal group CREDO Action, said Democrats’ decision shows Schumer’s willingness to betray progressives.
“Call it the #SchumerSellout,” he said in an interview.
Ben Wikler, a MoveOn.org director, echoed Zaheed’s sentiment.
“Call it the #SchumerSellout,” he said. “What’s clear from today’s joke deal is that the grassroots movement demanding unity and courage has a lot of work to do to ensure that the whole Democratic caucus is ready to fight when the time comes.”
Rep. Luis Guitierrez (D-IL) lashed out at his own party Monday.
“They caved. They blinked,” he said. “That’s what they do.”
A Twitter user took a swipe at Gutierrez after his comments.
“Says the guy wanting to build Trump’s wall with his own hands,” @JayPSU tweeted in reference to Gutierrez’ offer to build the southern border wall if it gets amnesty for illegals.
“I’ll take a bucket, take bricks, and I’ll start building it myself,” Gutierrez said.
#SchumerSellout has replaced #SchumerShutdown on the Twitter trending topics list which is kinda weird because the mainstream media told us all that the shutdown was Trump’s doing.
