The U.S. Secret Service responded to a suspicious vehicle near the White House Wednesday morning.
“ALERT: Secret Service Agents and Officers are responding to a suspicious vehicle near 17th street NW,” The Service posted to its Twitter Account. “New Executive Office Building is being evacuated. Road closures are being established and traffic will be impacted.”
Just minutes later, officials announced that the New Executive Office Building was being evacuated and that traffic was being re-routed.
“Vehicle traffic has been closed on 17th from ‘G’ to ‘H’ street,” they tweeted.
By 9:22 a.m. it appeared that the vehicle had been cleared.
“Explosive Ordnance Detection personnel have cleared the suspicious vehicle,” officials posted. “Vehicle road closures have been lifted. Pennsylvania Avenue and Lafayette Park remain closed to pedestrians.”
No additional details have been provided and this post will be updated as events warrant.
