One Dead, Two injured in Shooting at Maryland High School

GREAT MILLS, MD – Authorities responded to a shooting at a high school in St. Mary’s County, Maryland.

An official with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office said the situation at Great Mills High School is contained and officers are on-scene. The gunman, 17-year-old Austin Wyatt Rollins, shot two people, critically injuring one, then got into a gunfight with a law enforcement officer. The shooter is dead, but it is unclear if he took his own life or died from wounds sustained during the gun battle.

“There has been a shooting at Great Mills High School,” a message on the school’s website read. “The school is on lock down the event is contained, the Sheriff’s office is on the scene additional information to follow.”

It was later learned that the 16-year-old female victim may have been in a prior relationship with the shooter. It is still unknown if the 14-year-old victim had any relationship to the gunman.

“We are closely monitoring the situation at Great Mills High School,” said Governor Larry Hogan in a statement. “Maryland State Police is in touch with local law enforcement and ready to provide support. Our prayers are with students, school personnel, and first responders.”

this is a developing story and will be updated as events warrant.
