House Committee: ‘no evidence of collusion’ between Trump campaign and Russia

The House Intelligence Committee said Monday that they were done interviewing witnesses and had found no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

“We have found no evidence of collusion, coordination, or conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the Russians,” the committee said in a statement Monday.

A 150-page draft report has been compiled by staff members of the Republicans on the panel and given to Democrat committee members staff on Tuesday for review and adoption. It will then undergo a declassification review by the intelligence community and perhaps a review by the president similar to the process used for the FISA memos earlier this year.

The panel announced early Monday that it had completed the investigation portion of their probe and that no additional witnesses would be interviewed.

Democrats on the panel are likely to create their own report as a response – again following a similar political strategy as they did with the FISA memos.

“I’m sure [Democrats] will disagree with bringing the interview phase to a close,” Rep, Mike Conaway (R-TX) told Fox News. “I’m sure they will have specific folks they wanted to interview.”

The report contains more than 20 recommendations to improve election security, counterintelligence procedures, cybersecurity and campaign finance rules along with other findings such as Russia’s use of social media to polarize and divide the nation, how the Trump Dossier’s information got from Russian figures to the Clinton campaign, leaks from senior intelligence officials to the media and former President Barack Obama’s administration’s “lackluster pre-election response to Russian active measures.”.
