What’s in the budget bill for the military that the president just signed

President Donald Trump signed Friday the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2018 that lays out funding levels for government agencies and departments through the end of fiscal year 2018. The measure includes a pay raise for service members in particular and increased spending on defense overall.

Highlights from H.R. 1625: Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2018

• Funds the 2.4% pay increase for service members for the full fiscal year. The raise was authorized in a November 2017 short-term funding measure that would have run out Friday.
• Increases in defense appropriations, operations, pay, expenses, research and health programs – a total increase of about $61 billion over FY 2017.
