Trump: Pardon will rectify a sad portion of Scooter Libby’s life

President Donald Trump issued a full pardon to Dick Cheney’s former chief of staff, Scooter Libby.

The case against Libby began unraveling three years ago when a key witness said her testimony had been taken under dishonest circumstances.

“In 2015, one of the key witnesses against Mr. Libby recanted her testimony, stating publicly that she believes the prosecutor withheld relevant information from her during interviews that would have altered significantly what she said,” the White House said in a statement. “In light of these facts, the President believes Mr. Libby is fully worthy of this pardon.”

The Columbia Court of Appeals reauthorized him to practice law in 2016. The president took the sum of the facts and decided to issue an Executive Grant of Clemency.

“I don’t know Mr. Libby,” said President Trump, “but for years I have heard that he has been treated unfairly. Hopefully, this full pardon will help rectify a very sad portion of his life.”

President George W. Bush commuted Mr. Libby’s sentence shortly after his convictions. Mr. Libby, nevertheless, paid a $250,000 fine, performed 400 hours of community service, and served two years of probation for a conviction in 2007 for lying to the FBI, lying to a grand jury and obstruction of justice.
