Vice President Mike Pence visited the U.S. southern border Tuesday to meet with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers and highlight the need for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
“We’ve got to build a wall,” Pence said. “because a wall sends a very clear message that we are a nation with borders and that we intend to uphold those borders and defend those borders.”

The Vice President visited while a huge gathering of migrants from Central American countries camped out near San Ysidro in hopes of entering the United States by either claiming asylum or crossing into the country illegally.
Pence argued that the group of migrants was being exploited by open borders activists like those in Cities Without Borders.
“The simple reality is that this caravan and caravans that have come before are a result of individuals who are attempting to exploit the suffering of people in Central America to try and advance their agenda for open borders and to change the laws in the United States of America,” he told reporters.
Eleven members of the migrant group have already been charged for illegally entering the United States.
