Newsmax TV is betting on Bill O’Reilly to anchor its primetime lineup and, according to a report, that’s not the only former Fox News talent they’re talking to.
An insider told Page Six, “The deals are not done yet, but talks are in the advanced stages, certainly with O’Reilly.
Newsmax TV, offered over cable, satellite, free on the internet, and some local HD television stations, is hoping to put together an evening lineup that includes former Fox News talent Greta Van Susteren at 7 p.m. eastern, O’Reilly at 8 and Eric Bolling at 9.
O’Reilly was the number one cable news host just before being pushed out over unsubstantiated, and still never brought to court, charges of sexual harassment. Bill has maintained his following through his website, book deals, a regular podcast and a touring live show. If his previous popularity flows through to the Newsmax show, larger cable outlets could be given a run for their money.
Eric Bolling left Fox News over allegations of sexting women who worked at the company. No charges or legal cases have been brought in his case either. Bolling has a deal with CRTV to host “America” a show set to begin on the conservative network this summer.
Van Susteren left Fox News after Roger Ailes’ departure triggered a ‘key man’ provision in her contract that allowed her to exit within 60-days of Ailes. She had been considering parting ways with the network for some time and the contract provision gave her the legal way out. She has recently been hosting “Plugged in with Greta Van Susteren” on Voice of America (VOA) as a volunteer.
If all three former Fox News hosts join Newsmax TV, the ratings war for prime time cable news could get interesting.
