The suspect responsible for killing five and injuring several others in an Annapolis, Maryland newsroom has been identified as Jarrod Warren Ramos.
Ramos, the shooter allegedly responsible for entering the Capital-Gazette newsroom with a shotgun, shooting through a glass door at the newspaper’s headquarters and opening fire on employees. Five were confirmed killed and several more were wounded in the shooting.
Not only was Ramos armed with what police have been calling a “long gun,” he also reportedly had fake grenades, smoke bombs and flash-bang devices in his backpack, which were found on him after he was arrested, CBS News reported.
Ramos reportedly had filed a defamation claim in 2012 against the paper but the case ended up getting dismissed, according to PIX 11.
“This person was prepared today to come in, this person was prepared to shoot people. His intent was to cause harm,” Anne Arundel County Acting Police Chief William Krampf said.
“Think a credible newspaper could beat me to it?” Ramos tweeted. “Here’s to exposing liars everywhere I can. Come and get me.”
Although not confirmed, a Twitter page with Ramos’ name had several tweets targeting the newspaper and it’s employees, calling the paper his “sworn blood enemies” in one tweet.
“capitalgazette.com/opinion/columnists/plain_speaking/plain-speaking-renewing-our-independence/article_efb6cf10-5053-52e5-8e45-5f6db495e746.html … This is excellent, the best writing I’ve seen @capgaznews. And so the fake watchdogs remain my sworn blood enemies,” Ramos posted.
The link in the tweet goes to a non-existent page so it’s unclear what Ramos was commenting upon.
The victims, who have not been named, were reportedly taken to Johns Hopkins medical center in Baltimore to receive treatment.
Ramos was arrested in the building by police and was found hiding under a desk, according to authorities.
