Bartiromo: Trump is right, we’re on the losing end of 99% of trade deals

Fox Business News host Maria Bartiromo joined the Fox & Friends crew Sunday to talk about how bad our current trade deals are and how unfairly we are treated by our trading partners.

Bartiromo said: “He’s right. We’re on the losing end of 99% of trade deals,” as she commented on a series of messages the president had tweeted out Saturday.

“The United States must, at long last, be treated fairly on Trade,” he tweeted. “If we charge a country ZERO to sell their goods, and they charge us 25, 50 or even 100 percent to sell ours, it is UNFAIR and can no longer be tolerated. That is not Free or Fair Trade, it is Stupid Trade!”

The president also asked “Why is it that the Wall Street Journal, though well meaning, never mentions the unfairness of the Tariffs routinely charged against the U.S. by other countries, or the many Billions of Dollars that the Tariffs we are now charging are, and will be, pouring into U.S. coffers?” in a tweet.

Lastly, President Trump said that “When you’re almost 800 Billion Dollars a year down on Trade, you can’t lose a Trade War! The U.S. has been ripped off by other countries for years on Trade, time to get smart!” in his last tweet on the subject. Maria responded to the last tweet saying “This is not an insignificant point. He’s right!”

The president is working diligently to correct the mistakes of past administrations with a focus on bad trade deals and unfair treatment by our trading partners. Recently he put tariffs on imported aluminum and steel from several countries that have failed to negotiate good trade deals with the United States. While the European Union and Canada have decided to take their case to the World Trade Organization (WTO) China did what China has done for decades – they played the bully card.

“All economic and trade outcomes of the talks will not take effect if the U.S. side imposes any trade sanctions including raising tariffs,” the statement explained, suggesting that Beijing will void all previous and future agreements with the Trump administration should it decide to impose punitive tariffs on China.

Bartiromo also commented on the strength of the Trump economy. Referencing the 4.8% GDP forecast for the second quarter, and an amazing May jobs report, Nancy Pelosi had tried to spin the good economic news into something bad. Maria responded to the former House Speaker saying “We’re talking about almost 5% economic growth – there is NOTHING that just said that makes any sense.”
