Poll: Only 36% of Democrats want to Abolish ICE

According to a recent Rasmussen poll, just 36 percent of Democrats and 45 percent of liberals want to abolish the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE).

Rasmussen asked: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is a law enforcement agency of the federal government whose duties include border control. A proposal has been made to abolish ICE and assign its duties to other federal agencies. Do you favor or oppose getting rid of ICE?

The poll reveals sixty-nine percent (69%) of Republicans and 53% of voters not affiliated with either major political party oppose getting rid of ICE. Democrats agree by a narrower 44% to 36% margin the poll finds.

Rasmussen also asked: Is the U.S. government too aggressive or not aggressive enough in deporting those who are in this country illegally? Or is the number of deportations about right?

“Fifty-two percent of Democrats and 65 percent of liberals said “the government is too aggressive … in deporting those who are in this country illegally,” according to the poll.

The poll also reveals thirty-three percent (33%) of all voters believe the U.S. government is too aggressive in deporting those who are in this country illegally. But a plurality (46%) disagrees and says the government isn’t aggressive enough. Just 13% consider the current number of deportations as about right.

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on June 27-28, 2018 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
