Former Speaker of the House and presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said that there’s a good chance Paul Manafort wins his case, and if he does, Robert Mueller is gonna like a fool.
Appearing on Foxs’ America Newsroom, Gingrich discussed the case of former Trump campaign head Paul Manafort who’s trial started on Tuesday. Manafort is being prosecuted by special counsel Robert Mueller. Gingrich said, “If Manafort wins this, and there’s a good chance he will, I think Mueller is gonna look like a fool and I think the whole country is going to shrug off everything else Mueller does at that point.
Gingrich also addressed President Trump’s statement on Twitter Wednesday in which he said:
“This is a terrible situation and Attorney General Jeff Sessions should stop this Rigged Witch Hunt right now, before it continues to stain our country any further. Bob Mueller is totally conflicted, and his 17 Angry Democrats that are doing his dirty work are a disgrace to USA!”
“He’s not going to fire Jeff Sessions because the fix is in Washington and he would not be able to get anybody approved. The Senate would go crazy, about a third of Republicans would go crazy, you’d be back in a kind of Watergate-like environment. So I think President Trump is far better off to endure this, publicly be angry but endure this,” Gingrich said.
Additionally, Gingrich stated that Jeff Sessions has the absolute authority to fire the entire Mueller team if he wanted to do that.
“But on the other hand, if Jeff Sessions wanted to as Attorney General, he has absolute authority to fire the entire Mueller team,” said Gingrich.
