Grand Jury Impaneled to Investigate Fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe

A Grand Jury has been impaneled to investigate fired Deputy Director of the FBI, Andrew McCabe, according to a new report by the Washington Post.

Federal prosecutors in Washington are using a Grand Jury to investigate whether McCabe purposely misguided officials over his role in unauthorized disclosures to The Wall Street Journal in 2016 according to the report.

The grand jury, which has been impaneled for months reportedly summoned more than one witness who may testify against McCabe if he is charged and the matter goes to trial.

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia declined to comment to the Washington Post.

McCabe who had worked at the FBI for over 20 years was fired on March 16 just days before his planned retirement. McCabe had planned to retire on his 50th birthday so he could collect a full pension.

McCabe was fired by Attorney General Jeff Sessions following the report from the Justice Department’s Office of the Inspector General. The report detailed “allegations of misconduct” by McCabe and criticized him for “lack of candor” regarding his disclosure to Wall Street Journal reporters prior to the 2016 election.

Briefly, after the official report, it was revealed that the Inspector General sent a criminal referral for McCabe to the U.S. Attorneys office regarding the FBI’s investigation into the Clinton Foundation.
