President Donald Trump had planned to hold a MAGA rally in Cape Girardeau, Missouri Thursday evening to support Republican candidate Josh Hawley who is neck-and-neck with Democrat incumbent Senator Claire McCaskill according to the latest polls, but with Hurricane Florence about to hit the East Coast, the president felt it best to postpone.
“Regrettably, we must cancel the planned Make America Great Again rally in Cape Girardeau, Missouri this Thursday,” said Michael Glassner, Chief Operating Officer of Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. “With Hurricane Florence on its way, we determined that this is the safest decision.”
This is the second rally to be canceled due to the hurricane. Trump had canceled a planned rally in Jackson, Mississippi that had been planned for Friday.
In August, an NBC/Marist poll and a Missouri Scout survey both showed the race to be a tie with each candidate getting support from 47% of likely voters. Trump’s endorsement may be enough to tip the seat in Hawley’s favor just weeks before the midterm election.
Trump last visited Missouri in August of 2017 when he held a Tax Reform Kick-off Event in Springfield.
The event is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. CT at the Show Me Center. Doors will open at 4:00 p.m. and tickets are still available HERE – they go fast.
CDN will post a live stream of the event on Thursday.
