Two illegal aliens were arrested on August 28 in an immense counterfeit bank card scheme in St. Louis County.
The United States Attorney’s Office has sought detention of Madalin and Solomes as it appears neither is legally in the United States.
According to the Department of Justice, Mrejucia Madalin was traveling under a counterfeit Belgian passport in the name of another. Laszlo Solomes was in possession of a valid Hungarian passport but appears not to hold a valid visa to be in the United States.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported originally reported that Federal prosecutors said Friday that two Hungarian men have been caught with stolen mail and cash after using a series of cards at a St. Louis County ATM.”
“Mrejuica Madalin, 30, and Laszlo Solomes, 31, were arrested by St. Louis County police on Tuesday and have been charged by complaint in U.S. District Court in St. Louis with possession of 15 or more counterfeit access devices, the U.S. Attorney’s office said.”
“Prosecutors said someone spotted the men using a series of cards at an ATM in the 4300 block of Telegraph Road, south of Interstate 255, and contacted police. Officers stopped the men’s vehicle and found “a large quantity of cash, stolen mail and financial documents in the name of a third party,” prosecutors said. Investigators later found “a large cache” of counterfeit gift cards and prepaid debit cards, a laptop computer and a machine to encode data on cards.
Prosecutors want both held in jail until trial, as they claim Madalin was using a fake Belgian passport in someone else’s name and Solomes did not have a valid U.S. visa. Solomes was refused entry at Los Angeles International Airport in 2017, his passport shows.”
