A hazmat team was reportedly sent to Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz’s campaign office in Houston Tuesday after a suspicious letter containing white powder was opened.
The letter was opened by campaign staff and authorities were immediately called, according to The Weekly Standard. There were multiple fire trucks also reported outside as well as a hazmat truck.
The Houston Fire Department tweeted about two people being transported to the hospital in an office building at 3200 SW Freeway.
Cruz is up for reelection and faces a close race against his Democratic opponent Rep. Beto O’Rourke.
It is not yet clear whether the white powder in the envelope was toxic or not at the time of publication.
