President Donald Trump’s rally in Texas for Republican Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. John Culberson is moving to a larger venue after the demand for tickets for Monday’s event exceeded expectations.
“Response for tickets to #MAGA rally in Houston [Monday, Oct. 22] has been HUGE and unprecedented! This will be an epic rally, so we’re moving to Toyota Center,” tweeted Brad Parscale, Trump’s campaign manager. “Want to make sure everyone coming knows the venue change!”
Trump announced in August that he would hold a campaign rally in Texas for Cruz. On Monday, the president finalized the date for Oct. 22 at NRG Arena. However, the venue was changed on Thursday to the Toyota Center in Houston — with a stadium capacity of 17,000 to 19,000 depending on configuration, Toyota Center is almost twice as large as NRG Arena. Despite Cruz’s Senate challenger, Democratic Rep. Robert O’Rourke, raising more than three times as much as the Texas senator in the third quarter of 2018, Cruz leads in the race by a healthy high single-digit margin. At 52 percent, Cruz is ahead of O’Rourke by seven points, according to a poll of likely voters released on Tuesday. This marks the fourth poll in a row where Cruz has received more than half of the total vote.
