President Donald Trump threatened to close the U.S. border if his administration determines that Mexico has lost ‘control’ on its side.
President Trump hopes that the threat of shutting the border to commercial and private traffic will push Mexico into action.
“We will close entry into the country for a period of time until we can get it under control,” the president declared Thursday. “I mean the whole border.”
Tom Homan, Fox News contributor and former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement believes that if the border is shut completely, Mexico will be forced to take action.
“Mexico needs the United States,” Hohman said Friday on Fox and Friends. “They need that free trade and commerce.”
Thousands of migrants have formed a mob that has threatened to cross the border by any means necessary and Trump hopes to have Congress and America’s southern neighbor take action to stop it.
“The reason there is a caravan on the border right now, the reason the numbers are so high is that Congress has failed to act,” Hohman said. “If we don’t have a hard response and protect the sovereignty of this country right now, there’s going to be more caravans.”
“This is just the beginning,” Hohman added.
While Mexico attempted to stop the Migrant Mob at their southern border, once they breached the barriers, Mexico has done little to slow the army of migrants from advancing towards the United States.
“Mexico can do a lot to assist us,” he said. “They’ve done some and they can do more.”
