Hate Lines? Starbucks Wants To Bring Its Coffee To You

Starbucks will deliver coffee to customers in a new venture set to hit a quarter of its U.S. stores in early 2019, according to a Friday report.

Starbucks will partner with UberEats food delivery company to deliver coffee and other food products to customers, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

UberEats is an app that partners with restaurants to provide food and drinks to paying customers. The app serves customers across North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Africa.

The move comes after Starbucks began tester runs in Miami with UberEats delivery service in September, TheWSJ reported. The company hopes coffee delivery will expand its U.S. market and increase sales. Starbucks has already expanded its delivery services to over 2,000 stores in 30 cities in China, according to TheWSJ.

The company also hopes delivery service will attract customers who don’t like to wait in long queues at stores and want to have their coffee delivered directly to them.

Starbucks delivery services are expected to start at a quarter of its U.S. stores in early 2019, according to Bustle.

Starbucks’ delivery operations include using containers that keep drinks cold and hot, lids preventing splash, and special packaging, TheWSJ reported.

Starbucks has not publicly stated how much it will charge for delivery and if that fee will be a flat rate or accord with the size of the order. Food and Wine reported that customers can expect a near $6 flat delivery charge.

Starbucks shares fell four percent Friday, according to TheWSJ. The coffee company plans to lay off roughly five percent of its global corporate workforce in an effort to streamline operations and expand long-term revenue growth, TheWSJ reported.

“We’re simplifying the business to accelerate the velocity of innovation,” Starbucks Chief Executive Kevin Johnson said in a Thursday interview, TheWSJ reported.

The coffee company has made efforts to appear environment and minority friendly. Starbucks announced an end to plastic straws in July and opened its first store for deaf patrons that same month.

Starbucks did not immediately respond to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
