The Iranian regime test-fired a medium-range ballistic missile Saturday that is in clear violation of a U.N. resolution.
The missile, capable of carrying multiple warheads, has a range that allows it to strike parts of Europe and anywhere in the Middle East. The test violates UN Security Council resolution 2231 that bans Iran from undertaking “any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology . . .”
“As we have been warning for some time, Iran’s missile testing and missile proliferation is growing,” U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement. “We are accumulating risk of escalation in the region if we fail to restore deterrence.”
“We condemn these activities, and call upon Iran to cease immediately all activities related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons,” he added.
Iran used its program to threaten the United States and her allies last month when they fired a missile into Syria with “Death to America, Death to Israel, Death to Al Saud” written on the side and an Iranian reporter said on state TV that, “In a few minutes, the world of arrogance — especially America, the Zionist regime and the Al Saud — will hear the sound of Iran’s repeated blows.”
