TUCSON, Ariz. –U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Arizona’s Port of Nogales arrested a Mexican woman Thursday, connected to a failed attempt to smuggle almost $546,000 worth of cocaine into the United States.
CBP officers at the Dennis DeConcini Crossing referred a 35-year-old resident of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico for further inspection of her Nissan SUV. A CBP narcotics detection canine, trained to detect narcotics, alerted to the vehicle’s dashboard. Officers subsequently found nearly 23 pounds of cocaine inside.
Officers seized the drugs and vehicle. The suspect was charged for narcotics smuggling and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
