Gary Cohn, the former chief economic advisor for the Trump administration, didn’t mince words on the partial government shutdown, telling the Boston Globe that it is “completely wrong.”
The deadlock over border wall funding that’s led to 800,000 government workers being furloughed “makes absolutely no sense whatsoever,” Cohn said.
“I don’t understand what the outcome is here, and I don’t understand where we’re going with it,” Cohn continued. “I’m confused as to what the White House’s strategy is on this a little bit.”
Cohn resigned from the Trump administration after the president announced he would put tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum. The former Goldman Sachs COO is explicitly pro free trade.
Cohn made the remarks on the heels of his appointment as a fellow to the Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics.
