Special Category Of Scumbag: Nathan Phillips Guilty of Stolen Valor and Raising Money Claiming to be Vietnam Veteran

Of course, they had to Nathan Phillips claimed he served in Vietnam in 1976 when talking to reporters The Toledo Blade, but as you probably know the war ended in 1973. He said he was a marine veteran but the last marine unit left in 1971 when he was 16 years old.  “Correction: Earlier versions of this story incorrectly said that Native American activist Nathan Phillips fought in the Vietnam War. Phillips served in the U.S. Marines from 1972 to 1976 but was never deployed to Vietnam,” the update says.

Nathan Phillips has a history of lying about his military service as over $6,000 was raised for a documentary about his life where he claimed to be the Vietnam veteran that he is not. Director Maria Stanisheva said the documentary was about Nathan Phillips’ belief that he could pray his wife’s cancer away and it also talked about his rough upbringing, and the fact after he allegedly served in Vietnam then he struggled heavily with alcoholism. I reached out to Ms. Stanisheva for comment, I am yet to hear back from her.
