Virginia Lt. Gov. Issues Statement Refuting Reported Sexual Assault Allegations |

Virginia Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax vehemently denied claims that he sexually assaulted a woman in 2004, calling the allegations false and part of “sad and dark politics,” Monday.

A woman reportedly levied allegations that Fairfax sexually assaulted her while at a Democratic National Committee (DNC) conference in 2004. The woman did not name Fairfax, but referred to him according to Big League Politics (BLP), a right-wing blog, who obtained the alleged claim.

The Daily Caller News Foundation was unable to corroborate the claim.

Fairfax maintains the claims are false.

“Lt. Governor Fairfax has an outstanding and well-earned reputation for treating people with dignity and respect,” according to a Monday statement posted to Twitter. “He has never assaulted anyone — ever — in any way, shape, or form.”

“Imagine you were sexually assaulted during the DNC Convention in Boston in 2004 by a campaign staffer. You spend the next 13 years trying to forget it ever happened. Until one day you find out he’s the Democratic candidate for statewide office in a state some 3000 miles away, and he wins that election in November 2017,” reads a post by Fairfax’s alleged accuser, according to BLP. “Then, by strange, horrible luck, it seems increasingly likely that he’ll get a VERY BIG promotion.”

The statements were received as a text message and provided to BLP. TheDCNF will not identify the accuser until she makes a public statement regarding the reported allegations.

Fairfax’s accuser reported her claims to The Washington Post prior to the Lt. governor’s inauguration and the Post decided not to publish any allegations following inconsistent reports and a lack of evidence, according to the Lt. Governor’s Monday statement.

Fairfax will assume Gov. Ralph Northam’s position if Northam resigns. The governor has been the center of a media storm that erupted after he made comments appearing to condone infanticide. Northam said Thursday that he doesn’t regret his statements.

Northam also held a press conference Saturday to address a photo appearing to show the governor dressed up in blackface. Northam “darkened his face” as a part of a Michael Jackson costume, according to the governor. Northam also maintains he is not the one pictured in the photograph.

The photo appears in his 1984 medical school yearbook.

“Justin Fairfax is the leader Virginia needs now,” former Vice President Joe Biden tweeted Sunday, lauding Fairfax and calling for Northam to leave office.

Northam is considering resigning from office, but has made no official statement indicating he will do so, The Washington Post reported Sunday.

Washington Post blogger Jennifer Rubin described Fairfax as a “dynamic, eloquent African American.” She has received heavy criticism for the description.
