Attorney General William Barr announced Saturday that he will replace outgoing Assistant Attorney General Rod Rosenstein with Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Edward O’Callaghan.
“Yesterday in the Great Hall at the Department of Justice, we celebrated Rod Rosenstein’s 29 years of outstanding service to the Department of Justice, and bid a fond farewell to an exceptional Department leader and friend,” Barr said in a statement. “Over the last year, Rod has been well-served by his Principal Deputy, Ed O’Callaghan. Ed is a top-notch attorney whose intellect, competence, judgment, and experience are evident in every task he takes on. That is why I have asked him to serve as the Acting Deputy Attorney General until the Senate confirms Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein’s successor, Jeffrey Rosen. I am confident that Ed will be an excellent Acting Deputy Attorney General during this interim period.”
