Biden Proves He’s Just Another Democrat Who Doesn’t Know Anything About Guns

Former Vice President Joe Biden waxed fantastic Thursday about his record on gun control by proving that he has no idea how firearms work.

Obama’s second-in-command told the crowd at round 2 of the DNC debates that he was the “only guy that got assault weapons banned.”

The Federal Assault Weapons Ban (AWB) took effect in 1994 and lasted 10 years until 2004 when it sunset in accordance with language in the law – a law Biden indeed spearheaded. Without Bill Clinton in the White House, the measure would have failed spectacularly.

But Biden showed Thursday that he has no idea how semi-automatic rifles work – the very same rifles he claims to have co-written a law to ban.

“I’m the only guy that got assault weapons banned, and the number of clips in a gun banned,” Biden said when asked about gun control.

First, modern semi-automatic rifles – the firearms banned by Biden’s AWB – don’t use clips, they use magazines (yes, there is a difference). Second, the AWB has no limit on the number of clips, magazines or belts that a rifle may use or that a person may be in possession of. Instead, Biden is likely, and cluelessly, referring to the law’s large-capacity ammunition feeding device (LCAFD) clause which limited the capacity of any firearm ammunition feeding mechanism to just ten rounds of ammunition.

Anyone can make a mistake, but no one familiar with firearms, and certainly not a Senator who spent significant time studying a class of firearms in order to write legislation, would make this mistake.

It is far more likely that Biden didn’t know what he was doing when he lead the AWB effort, had little to do with it’s authoring and, even today, knows precious little about the right on which he is willing to trample.

Then again, he is a Democrat.
