Report: U.S. Army Involved in Secret D.C. Operation that Began Last Year

Those living in the Washington, D.C. area might actually have seen an increase in black helicopter activity recently as Army soldiers and helicopters have been involved in a secret operation in that area since late last year, according to a report from Bloomberg.

The mission was revealed when the Army sent Congress a document that requested to move $2.5 billion in already allocated funds to other programs. The request included $1.55 million for UH-60 “Black Hawk” aircraft maintenance, manpower and travel for an “emerging classified flight mission.”

“Soldiers from assault helicopter company and aviation maintenance units will be supporting the mission with 10 UH-60s and maintenance capabilities for four months,” according to the document, referring to the Black Hawks. The money will also pay for a specialized “Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility” at Davison Army Airfield at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, just outside Washington.

The Pentagon has declined to comment on the mission’s purpose, exact start date and when, if ever, it will end.

Hall said the operation began early in the fiscal year, which started Oct. 1, and “the duration of the mission is undetermined.”
