Jeffrey Epstein’s Autopsy Finished, But Results Are ‘Pending Further Information’

New York City chief medical examiner Barbara Sampson said Sunday that her office conducted an autopsy of Epstein’s body but have yet to determine his cause of death.

The autopsy results were expected to be released Sunday afternoon, but Sampson said the results are “pending further information,” according to a report by The Washington Post.

Epstein, who was facing up to 45 years in prison on sex trafficking charges, was found dead Saturday morning in his jail cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City after apparently hanging himself.

The guards who were supposed to be checking in on Epstein every 30 minutes reportedly failed to do so because both were working overtime, the president of the local union for jail staffers told WaPo.

The Justice Department and the F.B.I. are looking into the suicide, Attorney General William Barr announced Saturday. The FBI is also investigating the people whom accusers have said were connected to the disgraced billionaire’s global sex-trafficking scheme, according to the New York Times.

Many big names in media have expressed skepticism regarding the successful suicide attempt because Epstein had been placed on suicide watch after being found with marks on his neck in his jail cell following an initial unsuccessful suicide attempt several weeks ago.

President Donald Trump retweeted a conspiracy-theory-inspired post on Saturday after news of Epstein’s suicide that reads, “Died of SUICIDE on 24/7 SUICIDE WATCH ? Yeah right! How does that happen [Jeffrey Epstein] had information on Bill Clinton [amd] now he’s dead[.] I see #TrumpBodyCount trending but we know who did this!”

Documents released Friday revealed that Virginia Roberts Giuffre, one of Epstein’s alleged victims, claimed he “farmed her out” for sex to a number of powerful men. Giuffre was 15 years old and working at Mar-a-Lago — where her father was also employed — as a spa attendant when her father introduced her to the billionaire for the first time.

The documents name former Democratic New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, former Democratic Maine Sen. George Mitchell, Britain’s Prince Andrew, Epstein attorney Alan Dershowitz, former Democratic Maine Sen. George Mitchell and scientist Marvin Minsky as those involved in Epstein’s soliciting.

The FBI identified nearly three dozen underaged teenage girls, mostly between the ages of 13 and 16, who said they were recruited to perform sex acts for Epstein and his friends during a 2005 investigation into Epstein’s misconduct, according to The Miami Herald.

Epstein initially faced life in prison but struck a plea deal in 2008 with prosecutor and former Trump-appointed Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta, who led the U.S. Attorney’s Office in southern Florida at the time. He spent 13 months in a Florida prison on a work-release program.
