LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Laredo North Station arrested a gang member involved in an alien smuggling case at the Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 35 (I-35).
The incident occurred during the evening on August 26, when a Ford pickup truck approached the primary inspection lane at the checkpoint. The vehicle was referred to secondary inspection after a canine alerted to the odors of concealed humans and/or narcotics.
At secondary inspection, agents discovered a person inside a locked toolbox. The subject, a Mexican national appeared to be in good health and did not require medical attention. Both the driver and the subject were placed under arrest. Agents also discovered the driver to be a Hermanos Pistoleros Latinos gang member.
The case was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.
